We are a feminist and human rights organization seeking reproductive justice. For over 30 years, we have worked to ensure that women and persons with the capacity to become pregnant can fully exercise their reproductive rights. We are proud to be a central part of the transformation in Mexico regarding abortion, reproductive health, and work-life balance.

Ask harder questions, imagine different futures: Reflections on gender-based violence work
This report is the result of a global dialogue in which GIRE participated. Convened by Just Futures Collaborative, the Association for Progressive Communications, COFEM, and Realizing Sexual and the Reproductive Justice Alliance, it brings together reflections from academics, activists, service providers, community organizers, journalists, and lawyers on how to advance the prevention of gender-based violence.

This report synthesizes statistical, testimonial, and qualitative evidence and provides recommendations for addressing obstetric violence from a structural perspective. It was prepared by GIRE, the University of Oxford’s Uehiro Institute, and UNAM’s Institute for Legal Research.

It shows how penal regulation reinforces structural violence and the persecution of those who seek abortions, while also maintaining an unjustified intrusion into their life plans.
