Prohibition without protection. Adolescent marriage in México (2017)

The commonly drawn link between teenage pregnancy, school dropout, and early marriage does not reflect the full reality in Mexico, nor the comprehensive responses needed to address these issues.
Measures are needed to ensure access to contraceptives and to legal and safe abortion.

This report highlights the impact of abortion criminalization on the lives of girls and women in Mexico.
It also aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the patterns behind criminalization in order to combat it and ensure that reproductive decisions are made in a context of freedom and justice.

This report—using the term surrogacy, as it is the most appropriate from a human rights perspective—seeks to support the protection of all parties involved: those who wish to become parents, the women who carry pregnancies for others, and the children born through such arrangements.

This report presents cases in which, despite the legal obligation to provide safe abortion services in cases of sexual violence—without any additional requirements—some healthcare personnel place their personal religious or moral beliefs above human rights.
